HMC
Medical device for decontamination and high-level disinfection (cold sterilization) of
reusable medical devices.
HMC is a product based on peracetic acid specifically intended for high-level disinfection
(chemical cold sterilization) of medical devices such as endoscopes, bronchoscopes and
laparoscopes in a hospital environment, dental practices, medical health care centres.
HMC represents a safe system for producing sterilizing-disinfecting solutions.
HMC is a hygroscopic powder and totally water-soluble that, when dissolved in water,
generates a chemical-physical equilibrium that leads to the development of peracetic acid
after 15 minutes.
The action of HMC is performed at the level of spores, viruses (including hepatitis B, C and
(HIV viruses), bacteria (Gram +, Gram -, acid-resistant Bacilli, Mycobacterium tuberculosis)
and fungi.
The active ingredient, i.e. organic peroxide, is thermodynamically unstable; the aqueous
solutions may be conditioned by various factors, such as pH value and the temperature,
the presence of metal ions and the degree of water hardness. The formulation of HMC
aims at reducing to a minimum these instability risks.
APPLICATION
HMC is used by dissolving the compound powder in lukewarm tap water (±30-35°) by
following the procedure described below:
1. Place the dose of HMC (25gm per liter) in lukewarm water (activation start);
2. Shake until most of the powder has dissolved (2-3 minutes) and wait for about 30-45
minutes to obtain the ready-to-use solution.
3. Immerse the instruments in the solution for no more than 20 minutes.
4. Close the solution tray after use
5. The solutions must conserved in closed container and daily renewed
Decontaminating action:
To dip the instrument to treat directly in the active solution for 10 minutes. Rinse
preferably with sterile water.
Disinfectant-sterilizing action:
To wash the instrument and rinse it in order to proceed to the disinfection dipping it in the
active solution for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with water preferably sterile
The active solutions are clear and allow the visibility of the instrument. When retrieving the
immersed instruments, be very careful to avoid possible contamination following the
treatment. Before to immerse the instrument in the solution read carefully the indications
of the manufacturer of medical device to subject to treatment.
COMPATIBILITY
Materials: HMC has a high compatibility with the major part of the materials that
constitute the various devices used in hospitals and the healthcare sector, and
the pH of the solutions does not cause alteration of the integrity of the reusable
medical devices’ surfaces. The active principle developed is incompatible with
copper, bronze, brass, tin and aluminium.
Environment: HMC comply with the EEC regulations and the W.H.O. advices concerning
environmental standards.
